Description
An iconic, cottage garden perennials, yet with origins far away, the classic large flowered poppy with its characteristic black centre is followed by statuesque seed heads that add longer season interest. One of the more unusual varieties, Patty’s Plum is noted for it’s blousy, pinkish purple ruffled blooms that look like antique silk and its coarse, bristly leaves that provide a great backdrop for other plants. A real low maintenance, easy plant to grow, these poppies make a bold statement when planted as a group or as individual specimens. A very tough, hardy and robust perennial, the Oriental Poppy dies back underground each winter, and emerges bigger and better for years to come. Plant with other flowering perennials such as Delphiniums, Primulas, Lupins and Scabiosa to create a stunning summer display. Supplied as 2 x plants in 9cm pots, ready to plant straight out in your garden. Height 90cm x 60cm, flowering May – June. Note – plants are dormant during October to March so may show no leaves in the pot during these months. Care Information Best planted in a well-drained soil in full sun, Oriental Poppies can sprawl, so do appreciate a little support from other plants or stakes. Plant in a sheltered site to prevent wind damage to the blooms. Keep newly planted poppies well-watered until established. Give plants a dressing of fish blood and bone in the autumn. Mulch with well-rotted manure or compost in autumn and keep well-watered.
